The newly appointed First Chancellor of Christian Service University (CSU), Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante, has unveiled a bold and transformative vision that promises to propel the institution into a new era of prominence and impact. With a half-century legacy, CSU is poised for explosive growth, according to Chancellor Asante.
In an exclusive interview, Chancellor Asante outlined a comprehensive plan for program expansion, emphasizing a critical focus on health sciences. He stated, 'We need to expand into other health courses, such as lab technicians, to meet the urgent demand for skilled professionals in Ghana's healthcare sector.' This expansion will build upon CSU's existing strengths in religion, theology, nursing, business, communication, computer science, and mathematics.
Chancellor Asante stressed the importance of a seismic shift towards robust graduate studies, highlighting the need for expansion in all fields. He said, 'We have not yet fully utilized our potential in graduate areas, and we must expand our offerings to meet the demands of higher learning and specialized research.'
To support this growth, Prof. Asante unveiled plans for the development of the University's expansive, undeveloped land at Sabin Akrofrom. This strategic move will create a dedicated campus for health sciences and other new departments, transforming the University's landscape. He emphasized, 'We have the land, and we need to develop it to accommodate our growing needs.'
Chancellor Prof. Asante also highlighted his unique mandate as the University's dynamic public face, tasked with marketing CSU to the world. His mission is to forge powerful alliances with academics, industry leaders, and faith communities to secure crucial partnerships and resources. He vowed to champion competitive, student-friendly programs, including flexible 'sandwich' options, ensuring accessibility without compromising academic rigor.
Furthermore, he stressed the absolute necessity of robust collaboration with both public and private institutions. Chancellor Asante concluded, 'Our ultimate goal is to carve a unique niche, ensuring that when Christian Service University is mentioned, it signifies a standard of excellence and unique offerings that cannot be found elsewhere. The profile of Prof. Emmanuel Asante, First Chancellor of the CSU, reveals his distinguished academic career. He is a highly respected theologian, ordained minister, and alumnus of CSU. Prof. Asante served as the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana from 2009 to 2015 and later as the Chairman of the National Peace Council, fostering national cohesion and dialogue. In 2022, he was appointed to the Advisory Group of the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund, where he served for two years.
His extensive academic career includes roles at Christian Service University College, Trinity Theological Seminary, and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where he led the Department of Religious Studies. Prof. Asante has also contributed significantly as an external examiner and consultant in Religious Studies for various tertiary institutions and regulatory bodies across Ghana.
