Transfer Rumors: Liverpool's Andy Robertson in Transfer Limbo
Liverpool fans were taken by surprise during the January transfer window when it emerged that the Reds had entertained an offer from Tottenham for Andy Robertson. The 31-year-old, known for his exceptional performances as a left-back, joined the Premier League champions in 2017 from Hull City for £8m. Since then, he has become one of the world's best in his position, winning the Champions League and two Premier League titles.
However, last season marked a turning point. New head coach Arne Slot favored Kostas Tsimikas as a rotation option, leading to Robertson's uncharacteristic errors. This prompted a focus on left-back during the summer 2025 transfer window, with a £40m deal for Milos Kerkez. While Kerkez is now a regular, Robertson finds himself in a difficult position.
With a contract expiring in summer 2026 and a substantial £160k weekly salary, Liverpool considered a sale in January. The club could receive around £5m for Robertson, who is eager for first-team action ahead of Scotland's FIFA World Cup appearance. However, the move was halted due to an inability to conclude a deal with Roma, which would have allowed Tsimikas to return early from his loan.
According to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge, Tottenham conducted a last-minute check-in with Liverpool to confirm their stance on Robertson. Despite the interest, Liverpool remained firm in their decision, leaving Robertson in a state of uncertainty.
This season, Robertson has made only four Premier League starts, far behind Kerkez as a backup. He was keen to join Tottenham but now faces a frustrating second half of the season on the sidelines. With Tsimikas returning and young left-backs rising through the ranks, Liverpool is unlikely to offer a new contract, especially at his high wages. This leaves Robertson with limited options, particularly with the upcoming Scotland World Cup campaign.
